Will the Navy admit me into their aviation program if I've gotten laser eye surgery?

I’m applying for Naval OCS after I graduate from my university this year. I want to either be an aviator or go into their engineering program. The problem is that I don’t have perfect eye sight and I’m getting laser eye surgery after graduation. Besides that, I’m perfectly physically fit and academically capable (double-major in applied math and mechanical engineering w/ 3.8 gpa)…

You’ll need a waiver because it’s a medical disqualifier. I don’t think they will let you fly. You’ll also have to wait a year before you can join, if I remember correctly. My hubby got LASIK after getting out of the USMC, then needed a waiver for it when he joined the USN a year later.

Yes but with lasik you will never fly. The flaps in your eyes will cause your eyes to explode at high speeds.

be very sure having the surgery will not DQ you period. especially for aviation. you may want t make sure having the surgery will not DQ you from Aviation before you get in.. it may be better to WAIT until you have already finished OCS( assuming you get in) because IF they decide you are worthy.. THEY will pay for it.

BTW: be prepared to have them push NUKE on you with the degree and GPA. they need Nukes. they do NOT need Aviators.
