Laser Eye Surgery

I have bad eyes and both my parents said that when I’m old enough (18 yrs) I can get laser eye surgery to make my eyes better.
Have you had any experience with the surgery?
Is it a good idea?
Are ere any possible side effects?

I hope to join the Parachute Regiment. Hopefully to be a Sniper (as I have shown in one of my other questions) or other Combat Role. But primarily Sniper.

Let’s use the Parachute Regiment as an example. Would they allow someone who has had LASIK Eye Surgery. LASIK basically corrects being short-sighted (Myopia).

Would they allow someone who has undergone that surgery (for both eyes) join as one of their paratroopers? If they don’t, how about other branches of the Military? E.g. Royal Marines, Royal Navy, Regular Infantry?

Remember these are for combat roles where the eyesight need is greater.

I plan to use this, for your reference: http://uk.opticalexpress.com/laser-eye-surgery/lasik.html

Also, would they allow Advanced CustomVue Wavefront? The advanced version of LASIK (the one shown above)?:

I have asked them but never get straight answers (as always). So please give me good answers guys!

Hi Guys, I’m almost 16 years old and I’m really short sited, but, glasses give me great vision. I want to know whether I would be able to join either the R.A.F or The U.S Air Force, if I have laser eye surgery done or still wear glasses by the time I apply for the role of a pilot in the future. Thanks.

Can laser eye surgery be used to reduce your prescription?
I have been told that my vision is unfortunately too bad (+8 and +10 D European contact lense strength) to be corrected by laser surgery.

I am therefore wondering if it is possible to get laser surgery to just improve my eyes and reduce my prescription to a more normal level. Has anyone out there done this? Hardly any contact manufacturers make lenses this high in strength and I’m scared that someday I won’t be able to find any. Also, I don’t like wearing glasses as they magnify my eyes so much and people comment about it! icon smile Can laser eye surgery be used to reduce your prescription?

I have been told about the possibility of lense implants but this scares me! Do the implants degrade over time?

          Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks David! I feel much happier now! icon smile Can laser eye surgery be used to reduce your prescription?

Well I’m pretty badly short sighted and I’m just wondering wether I should get laser eye surgery. I have glasses at the moment but they don’t suit me. Or is contacts best? So Is laser eye surgery worth it?

Some places I read up on say all you need is "correctable to" 20/20 vision (glasses/contacts okay) and some places say you NEED to get laser eye surgery to become an Army National Guard pilot (rotary aircraft). Which statement is true and if the answer is "correctable", do pilots wear glasses/contacts when they fly?
