bad vision

I am 20 years old and near visioned. My prescription is very close to -8.0 and i am considered legally blind. Does anyone know what I can do concerning laser eye surgery? I am currently wearing myopia control hard contacts to stabilize my vision. I want to rid myself of contacts and glasses. I could use some helpful advice and suggestions on what I can do.

Ps. I was born with bad vision, its not by watching too much tv.

I have been doing some research and was not sure if you have bad vision that is corrected with contacts or glasses, if you get laser eye surgery to return your eyes to 20/20 vision, will that qualify you to fly for the Marine Corps or are you just out of luck if you have bad vision. Any help would be nice.

I;m currently debating enlisting in the Army and maybe down the road join the Ranger or the Special Forces. My vision is 20/80 in one eye and 20/100 in the other. Does my bad vision disqualify me from those positions? I heard you can wear glasses during training and the Army will pay for your surgery.

I’m looking to join the Marines within the next 6 months or so but I have bad vision (about 20/100 in each eye). The MOS I’m going for is something in Infantry or MP, so I know a tour in Iraq will be pretty much definite. However I’ll be damned if I take a round to the dome because I "dropped my glasses"…. how the hell would that look on my tombstone??

Anyway back on point….. I very much want to get Lasik surgery but I don’t know if I should try to do it before or after enlisting. If I get it done too soon before enlisting will they not take me? Is it an option to get it done after basic or is that not allowed? Will having it conflict with either of the job fields I mentioned above? And yes I know I’ll have to pay for it myself.

I have really bad vision and I want to fix my eyes…Really its not that I don’t like wearing glasses, but I love to play sports so my glasses are like a curse. I don’t want contacts because I’m scared they might get lost. Any tips about keeping my vision from decreasing at the moment?

I’ve been hearing you can’t get the surgery done if you play sports or do a lot of physical stuff .Well, I just joined the military & I hate my bad vision. Will I be allowed to get the surgery? And if so can I use my military medical insurance towards it? (I’m guessing no, but I might as well ask to make sure)
