LASIK Surgery Prices

The lowdown on lasik surgery prices

Lasik Surgery is a more complicated medical procedure than you think, so expect lasik surgery prices to be pretty expensive. Lasik, which means laser in situ keratomileusis, is a procedure that makes use of a highly specialized laser to improve vision through the treatment of refractive errors.

If you are like most people who do not want the hassle of wearing eye glasses or contact lenses then your best bet would be Lasik surgery. It is a highly-specialized procedure that requires the skills of a trained eye surgeon. And since it requires the services of a specialist, lasik surgery prices can be very steep.

But while the expensive lasik surgery prices are to be expected, the costs can still vary from one specialist to another. The cost for lasik surgery is however quoted per eye, so if your doctor gives you a price for the surgery and you intend to have both of your eyes corrected, confirm the price for both eyes.

Lasik surgery is not simple and it benefits from new technologies like wavefront analysis or bladeless Lasik. This could mean extra charges for the surgery and you should ask your doctor about this possibility so you can prepare for it financially.

As of 2009, a survey of refractive surgeons doing Lasik surgery revealed that an all laser-based procedure can cost an average of $2,140 while bladed Lasik surgery can cost an average of $1,748. Surgeons also quoted the average price of $2,314 for Lasik surgery that makes use of the wavefront technology.

Like most people who are planning to get Lasik surgery, do not fall easily for Lasik surgery prices that you see advertised on televisions, newspapers or even online. Following the principle of “Caveat Emptor” in advertising which means “buyer beware”, make sure you look for the fine prints and the actual cost of the surgery.

Lasik surgery prices actually depend on the extent of correction that needs to be done on the patient. The lesser the correction and the follow-up needed after the surgery, the lesser you have to pay. It follows that the more extensive the procedure your eyes require, the more expensive the surgery would be.

The price of lasik surgery may be more expensive compared to the other eye procedures but thanks to the poor state of the global economy, the price has not risen substantially over the years.

The cost of lasik surgery is actually cost effective, considering the many benefits it can give you. Say goodbye to heavy spectacles that can ruin your looks. Say goodbye to contact lenses that takes a lot of time to clean. But more than that, you can say goodbye to the insecurity that most people with vision problems encounter.

Lasik surgery is not cheap, that’s a reality everyone has to contend with. But the money you spend for this procedure is well worth it if it means getting back your normal vision. Well, not the 20-20 vision that lucky people have, but definitely better than how you previously viewed the world.
